Six long years. Such a span of time would cause some to jump to memories of the past where laughter and smiles were brought out in all their glory. However, for some people the memory of particular anniversaries were far to painful to smile their way through. A simple nod to those who brought it up was an easy form of admitting to the remembrance. Perhaps a more formal writing of words was called for in the situation but to a teenager, running was the answer to everything. At least it was to this sixteen year old.

Teagan’s mind continued to wander as she continued to walk down the sidewalk of a busy street leading to the mall. She was moving at a swift, graceful pace that almost looked as if she was dancing down the sidewalk. Of course all those years of dance lessons and running for fun helped elongate her movements. The newly paved sidewalk ended as it met a street she had to cross in order to reach her destination. With one quick glance both ways, Tee made her way across the active main drag and over to the mall’s side entrance.

Cool air brushed against her face while blowing some of her now light brown curly hair into her eyes. Annoyance filled her veins as she wrestled her hair back into place while winding around clothes wracks and people who seemed to walk at a negative mile an hour speed. Forever Twenty-One, one of Teagan’s favorite stores, called her name softly through the hoards of people moving slowly like cattle off to slaughter. She couldn’t help but ask herself why she decided to visit the mall when masses of people were also there. To say she was one to avoid crowds was a complete understatement.

An hour later and one bright yellow bag later, Teagan emerged from the store almost empty handed. Sure she found a cute skirt and a pair of bright red stiletto heals, but nothing made her feel any better. Maybe she wasn’t supposed to feel better on the anniversary of her parents’ death. Her bright hazel eyes scanned the mobs for a place to sit where she could figure out what to do next. A bench was coming up to her left where a single girl sat talking to herself. To others this would seem rather strange but to her, nothing was found strange anymore.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” Teagan asked in a quiet voice while flashing a bright yet hopeful smile.

Teagan rocked back onto her heels while waiting for the girl to answer her simple question. The brunette looked as if she was off in her own world thinking about things and her small jump confirmed her suspicions. Her perfectly straight teeth tugged gently on her bottom lip as she braced herself for a scolding. If she was ever to scare her family members in such a way they would yell so that others in China would be able to hear. A wave of relief washed over her small frame when a welcoming voice met her ears along with the gently pat of the seat.

“Thank you.” Tee replied softly with a short nod of her head. The wooden bench was hard against her back but relieved her feet so there was no use complaining. “Sorry about that. We all daydream and get lost every once in a while.” She added in agreement. Well, at least she got caught in her own world. However this only happened when she was running or dancing for hours on end. The other girl’s saucy motion of her hand followed by a laugh brought a small smile to her face. Something others haven’t been able to do for quite some time.

Teagan raised an eyebrow in question but never commented when the girl asked about not buying anything. She simply smiled and picked up the yellow bag sitting on the ground next to her. Sure it was only one bag and quite a bit smaller than those next to her new found companion but it was something. “I’m more into nature and running than materialistic things. However I did find a cute sweatshirt at Forever Twenty-One. I got that and a pair of red heels.” A small shrug followed her little explanation to what was in her bag. As a young child she never had an older sister to go shopping with thus her lack of enthusiasm when speaking about the activity. “Please to meet you Roslyn. I’m Teagan.”

Tee’s bright green looking hazel eyes moved from the girl next to her towards those passing by. Her nostrils flared slightly as her eyes fells upon a blonde male walking by, only to tare her eyes away momentarily. There were times she didn’t mind the mall when the stores weren’t crowded and this turned into one of those times. She loved to watch people walk by. “I’d rather be outside.” Teagan spoke in reply out of random, her eyes bouncing towards the girl sitting next to her before taking off once again. “Sweet tooth I presume? I can only have the tasty treats in moderation. I’ve never had a cavity and wouldn’t want to ruin these pearly whites any time soon.” She flashed Roslyn a small smile while crossing her ankles and swinging her legs lightly. “A lollipop sounds good though.”

There was something different about the girl sitting next to her but she couldn’t quite place it. She froze momentarily only to resume swingy her legs gently enough to not shake the bench. “Something isn’t right.” She mumbled more to herself than anything. Her fight or flight reactions were begging her to move from the spot and continue onward rather than stay mocking a sitting duck.
