Tempered Heartbeats

Welcome to world drenched in blood and tears, a world that knows no mercy. Welcome to the world a mere 10 years from now, 2020. It seems everything went incredibly wrong, didn't it? You wish. We all wish. However, it seems they were here long before us. Eons longer. It started in the year 2012. Ah, yes. The year the Mayans predicted the world would end. They were correct; it did end. Our world, our human civilization ended and the oldest yet newest of empires came forth. We thought they were myths, folklore, legends... My, how wrong we all were. We were fools. They came out of nowhere. There were billions of them, verging on trillions. And we humans had no idea of the madness. Literally, overnight, we pitiful creatures were overthrown and became slaves beneath their feet.
Who you ask?
Shifters. Vampires. We never saw them coming. You can't fight legends. And now, for the past 8 years, we are no longer the most sentient of beings. We are mongrels beneath their feet; it is only our sheer numbers that keep them from attacking us like we know they want. Presidents, kings, and other rulers alike, leaders of all nations, sought agreements with them, hoping to keep those laws that has governed them all these thousands of years and keeping us safe. And so, the peaceful era began. Well, as peaceful as it could be. Vampires and Shifters sought the luxuries of New York at first, but they wanted something better. More room. London. London was their capital and the place where the Shifter's Heart, their governing council, and the Royals of the Vampires sat in grim truce. And they treat us as stiffly polite as they can. To them, we are something as barely tolerable as a bug.
But then humans... Our rebellious streaks came about. People, in vast numbers, were coming up missing. The person you were talking to one day didn't exist the next, and you honestly wondered how long it would be before someone tired of your existence. It's all about loopholes, their ancient laws. Yes, they abide by them, but there are always ways around them. Human numbers are dwindling, still now, as we are more becoming slaves than equals. The world is fast becoming stuck in older times because the immortal creatures prefer those times better. Technology is disappearing, and either they are keeping it or they are destroying it. And recently, Shifters and Vampires, who have been in treaty these past 8 years, have suddenly pressed attacks on each other. And these creatures...they are something more old and powerful than even we humans begin to understand. Vampires lick their lips and Shifters sharpen their claws and we Humans are caught in the middle of these...these...
