., it was night, and a silvery globe hung high in the sky as a grey wolf stalked below it. the creature glowed in the moonlight, it's silver coat shimmering with the light from the pale globe. with this light, it was obvious that there was something strange about the creature, something abnormal. any human who saw this 'wolf' stalking through the night would know that it was more than just a ravenous canine. this fact came from the way the creature was walking - not on four paws like most wolves, but on it's pack legs meaning the wolf walked upright, like a human being except with a furry coat and snout. if the streets were crowded the wolf would have drawn much attention, but due to the cover of darkness that midnight brought, the animal could walk unnoticed through the night, no matter how unnatural it appeared. the reason for this odd way of walking was due to the fact that the creature was shifter and not wolf. the shifter was a human being with the ability to access two different forms, a handsome human one or a strong wolf one. he was apart of the band of shifters that now prowled through the city.
., nighttime was the creatures preferred time of day to wander the streets, and the creature was called alexander. alex preferred night to enter his other form as then much less attention was drawn to him. he far preferred being under the radar and so kept to the shadows. alex was more of an anti-social shifter, mainly due to the fact that he found those he cared for often passed away. he'd decided that detaching himself from other souls on the planet would save him the grief that would otherwise attack him from day to day. it was difficult to say that alex led anything less than a complicated life, but he was used to the issues that this life presented him with, the issues that made him so cold towards other life forms. the only creatures he had any respect for now was other werewolves like him, who walked on two feet and were clever enough to separate themselves from the other shifters that scrambled through the winding alleyways in the city. the grey wolf let out a huff of air that resembled a sigh and turned his body so he could make a beeline for his desired destination - st. asraiels church.
., he could see the tall building through the darkness now, and so began to change. thick fur sucked itself into his body so pale skin replaced it, the wolves features began to change, the wolf's snout disappeared completely to be replaced with a nose and mouth until, a few seconds later, a tall, dark haired man, stood near the church dressed in black clothing. alex stepped forward, and easily swung his muscular body over the low wooden fence that stood around the graveyard behind the church. the area had an eerie feel to it, but it was something that did not bother alex, he was not afraid by the idea of 'ghosts' or something else hiding in the darkness. instead the man's blue eyes flickered through the darkness as he trudged forward, landing on three graves all in a line together. it only took a few strides to reach the moss coated stones, at which the boy crouched down, reaching out a finger to wipe the moss off the stone, uncovering a name there. 'james carter' it read, and alex hung his head after uncovering the names of his mother and sister's names after his father's. his family, long deceased. those who he had loved most now buried under the earth. a bitterness swelled up inside him as a mild wave of grief hit him. but, suddenly, a crack came. it was the sound of a stick breaking underfoot. alex immediately straightened up, his eyes narrowed as they flickered around the graveyard, blind in the darkness. he said nothing into the dark night, but simply waited for the thing that had created the noise to appear.
